A feasibility layout, detailed design and as-built record serve different purposes. State which stage is required and what decisions the work must support. Do not assume that a preliminary arrangement is suitable for construction or that a drawing package includes authority submissions, surveys or site assistance.
Agree the input responsibilities
Identify who provides measurements, consumption profiles, electrical drawings, structural information and equipment data. The appointment should explain how missing or outdated information is handled. A designer needs a process for recording assumptions and notifying the client when a changed input affects the output.
Control interfaces and revisions
Define the boundaries between electrical, structural, civil, fire-safety and communications work as applicable. Use revision identifiers and an approval register. When equipment or site conditions change, review the affected documents together rather than updating a drawing while leaving calculations or schedules based on an earlier version.
Define acceptance and ownership
Ask for a deliverable list with format, review stages and the responsible reviewer. Clarify the status of editable files, equipment schedules, calculations and final records. Agree how comments are closed and which documents represent the accepted design. Engineering support after issue should be stated in the appointment.
