Provide available structural drawings, roof build-up, construction history and records of later alterations. Identify known leaks, repairs or damaged areas. If documents are missing, say so explicitly. A recent photograph is useful context but does not replace an assessment of the building’s structure and condition.
Distinguish space from suitability
Usable area describes where modules might fit after constraints are considered. It does not establish that the roof can support the proposed installation. Mounting strategy, load paths and relevant site conditions need review by qualified professionals. A universal kg/m² limit is not an adequate assessment for an individual building.
Coordinate the survey
Arrange safe access and identify areas requiring specialist handling. The structural reviewer and solar designer should work from consistent roof information and a controlled layout. Record how proposed mounting and access arrangements relate to the roof’s condition, warranties and future maintenance requirements.
Close findings before procurement
Ask for documented conclusions, limitations and any required remedial work. Feed accepted changes back into the solar layout and commercial scope. Do not order an assumed mounting configuration as though it had already been approved. Keep the assessment, final design and installation records together for future reference.
